The UX Club at UT Dallas aims to increase awareness of and create a community around user-centered design. We strive to learn, understand and create well-designed experiences. We wanted the logo to be simple, memorable, timeless, appropriate, and most importantly versatile. The chameleon approach, designing a logo that can feature multiple designs and patters, is useful because the logo can change for different contexts and can be used in many situations. Not only that, but the logo becomes more refreshing, enjoyable to look at, and gives different perspective.
We wanted the logo to reflect the prototyping process in interaction design. To do this I designed with a grid, and used the correct proportions to make sure everything had a place and a purpose. With the grid, the logo gains clarity and order. As humans, we try to create order from the chaos in most everything we do. We organize into social communities and order materials into the buildings we live in. Look around you at all the things that are organized in grids. The windows of a building, chess boards, maps, and modern cities. Grids are a way to create order in layout.
The gird also creates consistency, and harmony. Grids offer a guide to the placement of information and help generate visual hierarchy. They promote rhythm and consistency in a design and help you develop relationships between elements based on rational proportions.
